Why Choose the Standard PDA over a Smart Phone

Why Choose the Standard PDA over a Smart Phone

The Smartphone is the latest innovation that is now available in the market. It’s hot and many have replaced their PDAs with this new gadget. From the PDA that we’ve depended on evolved the Smartphone. It can also be regarded rather as a cell phone with PDA capabilities. Since Communication is the main point of our technologies' progression, one can imagine, without much difficulty, the PDA's demise in our way of life.

Not all would have the same opinion though. Gadget enthusiasts are in fact not as accommodating to the freshest produce of technology. Many have scrutinized both gadgets and the Smartphone’s awkward bulkiness was the easiest to spot. Serious users have considered the dimension of the PDA's screen in viewing documents, pictures and videos. If we weigh it against the Smartphone, viewing files are better in PDA. Moreover, PDA users have already been comfortable going through its features like photo storage, MP3s and the calendar without much complication. It has proven its reliability through time combining your address book, with the electronic calendar that notifies its users with their appointments, a handy notepad aside from the diary, a doodle pad for entertainment, etc. It also allows its users to protect its contents with passwords and secret codes. All contents are searchable and sortable. With these well-loved features, many would still prefer the standard and basic PDA over the Smartphone.

Businessmen, in contrast, look at the extra features of the Smartphone as an advantage to step up in the world of commerce. The PDA may have been an "all-in-one “tool but its user still has to carry a cell phone unlike with a Smartphone user. The Smartphone is without a doubt handy and essential in their day-to-day dealings. However, it is absolutely more costly in price and maintenance. Fees come with its use, whether as a phone or to access the Internet. The fees can be very expensive if the user is not so careful in downloading information or in sending text messages. If the gadget will be used for a mobile access to the Internet, the PDA is a smarter choice than the Smartphone. Since the availability of free Wi-Fi has become a common feature in most restaurants and cafes, the PDA is cheaper to use. Since the PDA serves as a portable PC, it can keep an entire book of documents, charts and spreadsheets. Moreover, the PDA wouldn't also have any of the excessive charges unless you actually purchase and add a program. Actually, the programs are cheaper than the additional fees from the smart phone - mainly because again, it is a simple PDA and not a phone.

One last thing, keep in mind that the Smartphone is still young in the market. Expect faulty units, unreliable software and exorbitant prices that come with it. The PDA, one the other hand, has been tried and tested through time of its existence in our lives.
